Happy First Father's Day

Caleb got his Daddy such a great gift for Father's Day! Doug wanted a BBQ smoker and have been often dreaming about BBQ ribs, brisket, sausage, salmon, bok choy . . . what else can be smoked? Well on Father's Day, Doug got this present from Caleboo . . ."HAPPY FIRST FATHER'S DAY, SUPER DAD!" His card sang a little song:

Wild Flowers!

The city of Richardson plants a large field of wild flowers in front of the public library every Spring, so we thought we'd take Caleb out for a little family photo shoot.

3 1/2 Months and Growing

So much has happened since the last post, thought it's about time for another update. Caleb just celebrated his 100th day birthday, a kind of landmark event within the Korean culture. It's hard to believe that tiny 6lb 11oz newborn who kept mommy and daddy up at ungodly hours of the night has now become a 16 lb little boy. Here's a picture of the three of us during his little birthday bash.


Yeah, Caleb's growing up so fast these day, really packing on the pounds and causing mommy to become extremely sentimental. We were all sitting together one day and Jae began talking about how much she's going to miss Caleb at this young age, wishing she could keep him as young as baby forever. She went on to say she wished she could remember everything about him while he was a baby too, especially the way he smells, at which point, she buried her face into his hair and take deep breath in. She admitted that a baby's cradle cap hair normally doesn't smell very pleasant, but she just loves the smell of Caleb's cradle cap hair . . . along with his milky breath. A mother's love for her child has no equal I suppose.

I on the other hand am not so crazy about his cradle cap, but I will definitely miss having this precious little baby boy around. Just look at these photos. But I can't wait to see the kind of kid he'll grow up to become. Okay, enough sappy emotional whimsy. On with the rest of the photos.

So a good friend of ours gave us this enlarged photo of Caleb and as part of our thank you card to her, we decided to enclose a photo of Caleb beside it. Well, in usual baby fashion, Caleb had trouble looking at the camera for the photo, but surprisingly enough, we still got a lot of cute photos of him looking every which way but the camera. "On guard!"

Week 7 and Spring is finally here!

The sun is out, trees are blooming, and the birds are chirping . . . let's take some pictures! And take we did. I've still a bit of post processing to do, but here's the first photo of a few more to come.

There's a great tree with purple blossoms just down the block that I've wanted to include in a photograph of Jae and Caleb. It blossoms each year just about this time and we've told ourselves we'd take some photos in front of it but never got around to doing it. Well, with Caleb in our lives now, we finally took the opportunity to take photos before the little guy grows too big (just look at the size of the cheeks on that fella).

Yeah, Caleb's growing quickly. He's nearly doubled in weight (mostly in cheeks I think) and has out grown a good deal of clothes. He's also much more alert these days, following the sources of sounds and paying more attention to mom and dad. He's also gained more strength in his neck and back though he still has a great bobble head impersonation. And his little hands are beginning to grab onto things much more including mommy's shirt as he nurses. I like to call it the Grip of Death. There's times when he's so hungry and frantic that he latches onto mommy's shirt with his fist and won't relax until he's finally satisfied. The poor little guy thinks someone's gonna take his food away from him.

The past six weeks have just flown by . . . you tend to lose track of time when not getting much sleep I suppose. I just wish I could slow it down a bit. Soon Jae will be back to work and we won't have as much mommy, daddy, and baby time together as we do now. I'll just have to savor these days and preserve as much of these memories on film as possible.

Hand-In-Hand

I saw the most heart-warming thing I've ever seen today. Jae had gone upstairs to nurse Caleb after we had finished dinner while I stayed downstairs to clean-up. Afterward, I went up stairs to check on them and came upon the scene below. Apparently, Caleb had fallen asleep after a his feeding, and after a long day of chatting it up with her friends at a baby shower, mommy went to bed too. Nothing too spectacular except for Caleb holding onto mommy's arm while sleeping.

It was actually much darker when I walked in and found them side by side, and as soon as I saw Caleb's tiny hand holding onto mommy, I quickly grabbed my camera, turned on a few more lights, and shot away. All those sleepless nights, countless diaper changes, and endless crying . . . all worth it for moments like these.
